A day in the life of a Pulse Fiber Technician

At Pulse, we’re committed to not only bringing the fastest internet to Loveland, Timnath, and Larimer County, but also to delivering exceptional service. In 2025, PCMag ranked Pulse as the fastest internet service provider, and in 2026, PCMag readers placed Pulse among the top 5 ISPs in the nation.

From up the Big Thompson Canyon, to your doorstep, and everywhere in between, our field technicians play a huge role in making Pulse the high-quality service that it is today. You’ve likely seen our techs in neon safety vests and driving around town in Pulse trucks, but what exactly are they doing to keep our fiber internet running?

EARLY STARTS AND DAILY PREP

Our technicians are often the first to arrive each morning. Their days begin around 7:30 am with organizing routes and loading equipment like fiber splicers, conduit, and tools needed for the day’s installations and service calls. Once organized and loaded, they hit the road.

INSTALLATION ORDERS

Installation orders are a core part of a technician’s day. Each order lists the customer’s information and the specific fiber cabinet that serves their address. The tech’s first stop is that cabinet, where they connect a fiber jumper that links the main fiber line from the nearest hut to splice pits throughout the neighborhood. The splice pits are small underground enclosures typically located in yards or easements and help extend fiber directly to each home.

PULLING CONDUIT

Before installation day, our underground crew prepares the route from the splice pit to the customer’s home. Using a small Vermeer unit, they pull fiber or conduit underground, install a Network Interface Device (NID) on the home, and connect the fiber there.

Our team has two Vermeer units we use, named Pancho and Lefty. See Lefty pictured below!

INSTALLATION DAY

On a customer’s scheduled installation day, field techs bring the fiber from the NID into the home through the best entry point, install a wall plate, and connect the NID to the Pulse ONT. The ONT is responsible for delivering our multigig internet service to your home and connects to either a Pulse-provided router or the customer’s own router.

After setup, techs walk customers through the equipment and answer any questions, ensuring they’re comfortable with their new service.

SERVICE CALLS

Each service call is different in its own way. They may involve ONT or router troubleshooting, service upgrades, or support for PulseTV or Voice. Calls come in through our 24/7 support line, and once our in‑house team triages the issue, we dispatch techs as needed. Response times are typically same‑day, allowing us to resolve issues quickly.

Customers consistently praise our technicians for being friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. They take the time to make sure customers have the best experience possible. KEEPING COLORADO’S FASTEST INTERNET RUNNING SMOOTHLY

This is just a glimpse of what our field technicians do on a day-to-day basis. We’re grateful to have hardworking, reliable, and friendly technicians on our team who go above and beyond to ensure that our network is the best that it can be, and that the people who call Northern Colorado home have the best multigigabit fiber network possible.
